As we all know, the weather doesn't always cooperate with our grand plans. Rain, snow, wind, or freezing temperatures can often get in the way of our adventures. Even if we look at the forecast and plan accordingly, the forecast can be wrong. So what should we do when this happens? Admit defeat and crawl back indoors? No. Take advantage of what nature bringsDon't let a little cold rain stop you from enjoying your outdoor plans. Do something different. Get your raincoat and umbrella and take a walk through the woods.
I know, this sounds like a horrible experience, but at least it's a new one. Adventure awaits those who are willing to look for it. Of course, there are some circumstances which simply won't allow this "push through it" mindset. But when you can, push through - no - climb these walls that nature puts up. You might find something extraordinary on the way up.

The warm weather is finally beginning to announce itself as it slowly trickles into New England. Now is the time when things will start waking up (some already are awake) and things will start growing. New grass is springing up bearing a gloriously rich green saturation.
As the weather turns from harshly chilly to mildly warm, don't forget to take the time to experience this wonderful new season as it begins. Take the time go outside. Not present on the year At any other period. When March is scarcely here A color stands abroad On solitary hills That science cannot overtake, But human nature feels. It waits upon the lawn; It shows the furthest tree Upon the furthest slope we know; It almost speaks to me. Then, as horizons step, Or noons report away, Without the formula of sound, It passes, and we stay: A quality of loss Affecting our content, As trade had suddenly encroached Upon a sacrament. Unfortunately I was forced to miss my Saturday post this weekend because I was away, but here's a post for the first day of spring! Spring is finally here.
Things will start waking up soon - some things already have. Yesterday I saw a flock cedar waxwings and robins. I have also spotted an occasional chipmunk. Read last year's post on the signs of spring. Further reading: Picturing Spring 5 Ways to See Nature The Eastern Chipmunk The snow is beginning to melt, and Spring is on it's way. In these last weeks before it gets here, start a diary of the signs of Spring that you come across. Maybe the birds are getting louder, or you see some flowers starting to spring up from the ground. Write it down at the end of every day, and soon enough Spring will be here. Here is a beautiful poem by Robert Frost about Spring. Enjoy! A Prayer in Spring
Oh, give us pleasure in the flowers to-day; And give us not to think so far away As the uncertain harvest; keep us here All simply in the springing of the year. Oh, give us pleasure in the orchard white, Like nothing else by day, like ghosts by night; And make us happy in the happy bees, The swarm dilating round the perfect trees. And make us happy in the darting bird That suddenly above the bees is heard, The meteor that thrusts in with needle bill, And off a blossom in mid air stands still. For this is love and nothing else is love, The which it is reserved for God above To sanctify to what far ends He will, But which it only needs that we fulfil. |
