This week, something I had never thought about before popped into my mind.
What do seabirds drink? Well, the obvious answer is water. But then I wondered about seabirds that live in the arctic. All the fresh water they could possibly find would most likely be frozen. So what do they drink? The answer is a little surprising. They drink salt water. Seabirds are equipped with salt glands located above their eyes which gather the salt from the blood stream and then releases it from the nostrils. The densely salty fluid then runs down grooves in the beak and fall back into the ocean. This is another fascinating example of the creator's incredible design. He made these seabirds perfectly to fit into their environment.

Description: These large raptors are easily recognized as black vultures, due to their size and color. With a wingspan of 4.9 ft, these birds are relatively small for vultures. Their grayish black heads are strikingly different than the turkey vulture. Habitat: These birds live from the southern United States down to South America. They prefer open lands with dispersed areas of woods and brush, but can be found in wetlands, swamps, pastures, and forests. Diet: These birds eat mainly carrion, but can also be found foraging in garbage. They find their food mainly by sight, but also follow other vultures to the spot of the carcass. When feeding, these birds do get aggressive, and will even chase away larger vultures. This beautiful mockingbird's fickle song flowed loudly through my neighborhood this week. This animal picks up on the songs and sounds around him that he constantly hears. What an amazing creation of God.
Woodpeckers are very unique birds and are incredibly beautiful and interesting to study. The vast supply of species range all across the world, but today I will only cover the most common two in my region: the downy and the hairy woodpecker. So, let’s take a close look at these amazing creatures. The Downy and Hairy Woodpecker Although the hairy and downy look very much alike, there is an easy and simple way to tell them apart: their size. The downy is about six inches tall and has a wingspan of about twelve inches, while the hairy is nine inches tall and has a sixteen inch wingspan.
Woodpeckers are fascinating creatures created uniquely by God. Such an incredible design in such a tiny bird. Amazing! The month of May has come, and that means the hummingbirds are on their way. Soon these tiny, lightning-quick birds will arrive, seeking the aroma of fresh Spring nectar. Hummingbirds are so uniquely created by God. No other birds have the ability that they have, to fly in every direction at such a speed. They can even hover in mid-air for seconds at a time. Hummingbirds have been known to flap seventy times per second. Wow! Watch the short video below to see a hummingbird flap in slow-motion. Unfortunately, I haven’t yet had a chance to photograph these amazing creatures. This year, I hope that will change.
When I think of hummingbirds, I thank God for creating such spectacular animals for us to study and enjoy. He is amazing, and so is His masterpiece. |
