Smooth ice covered everything this week making the roads slippery but everything else beautiful! Here are some photographs I took.

For the first time this year, I had the time to take a short walk through the woods in the snow and take some pictures. It was gorgeous. Here are three things I wanted to share with you about walking in the snow: 1. It's cold. Although this is obvious, I had to mention it. Bring an extra pair of gloves even if you think you won't need them. With your finger tips freezing, it is nearly impossible to see the beauty in nature (never mind take a picture with your camera). So dress warmly. 2. Bring a camera. Even if it's just on your phone, bring a camera. The quality of the picture isn't as important as being able to look back at what you saw and remember. Take pictures of anything that is beautiful, and always be prepared to snap a shot. I found that I was taking a picture almost every ten seconds, so never turn the camera off. 3. Take your time. Especially if you are walking alone, take your time and observe. It is so peaceful in the woods when there's snow. Maybe stop walking every few minutes and look around, take a picture, and continue. You never know what beauty you'll see. Another good thing about walking in the snow is that you can see what animals have been there before you by looking for tracks. When you find tracks, take a picture of them and do some research when you get home. Compare your picture with the one on your screen. This is quite a fun thing to do in the snowy months. Here are some more pictures I took on my walk this week: This is my mom kindly posing for me. :)
"But he who dares not grasp the thorn should never crave the rose." God gave us roses. As I write this, the beautiful red and white flowers you see in the photograph above are sitting on the table in front of me. Close your eyes and think about these roses. Can you picture them? The flowers you are thinking of are gorgeous gifts from the creator, but they aren’t all I mean. I mean roses in life as well as the flowers. Something absolutely wonderful, but just out of reach. Rather, you could reach it if you endured the hardships that come with it. The thorns are all that stand in the way, but you aren’t strong enough to survive the pain. Or you think you aren’t. So you leave it alone. Think about roses in your life. Is there something you want so much but don’t want to go through the hardships that block your path? Maybe it’s a friendship. Or a money situation. Or your relationship with God. Sometimes it’s worth the prick of a thorn to get to the rose. Sometimes it’s not. The choice is yours. Find your rose. Push through the thorns. You may find that your rose was worth the pain. Tell me what you think in the comments below. What's your rose? What are your thorns? A few nights ago, the sky was dark (as it usually is at night), and the moon was shining gorgeously above. I was incredibly tempted to shoot a picture of this brilliant sight, so I did some research, grabbed my camera and my tripod, and headed outside. I adjusted my settings, got my camera in focus, and "click."
I waited... Once the camera had finished taking the picture, I eagerly looked at the results. This beautiful picture you see above is NOT what I saw that night. What I saw was a disgustingly blurry image of what looked like someone smiling with chapped lips in a dark room. Not pretty. So... I gave up and found this image on Google? WRONG! I tried again a few nights later. Although the sky wasn't very dark yet, the moon was clearly visible and I decided to give it another go. Yet again I adjusted my settings, got my camera in focus, and "click." I waited... Lo and behold, the image you see above popped onto my tiny camera preview screen. I had successfully shot the moon! Yay! So, here is my encouragement to you. No matter how many times it takes you to get a photo just the way you want it, try again. Eventually, you will either give up because you never really cared in the first place, or you will get that photo perfect! So grab your camera and get out there! And never give up. Thoughts? Let's talk in the comments below. :) I'm happy to announce the winner of the photography contest from two weeks ago is... *drum roll* Bethany Cordle! Congratulations, Bethany! Bethany's beautiful nature photo is a stunning reflection of God's incredible creation. What I liked about this photograph is the vibrant display of the color green, and the comforting feeling of peace and lushness.
Thank you, Bethany, for sharing this gorgeous photograph! Never stop using this gift God gave you to honor Him and glorify His creation. Thanks again, Bethany! As I've said before, photographing nature is a wonderful way to connect with God's glorious creation. Remember, anyone can snap a picture, even if all you have is a camera on your phone. I encourage you to get out there, and see what happens! Happy shooting. Tell me what especially caught your eye in Bethany's beautiful photo in the comments below. |
