Do you ever struggle with wanderlust?
I often find myself full of discontentment with where God has put me. I long to see other countries, full of different plants and animals and spectacular new sights. Sometimes I long for those things so much that I don’t see the beauty of where I am now. Don’t let this happen. God has placed you just where he wants you. No, it isn’t wrong to want to see earthly beauties—God delights in us doing that—but to let it get in the way of our seeing the beauty in the places we are is not God’s will. Don’t let this monster consume you. Wanderlust is a deadly weapon the enemy (Satan) uses against us. How do I avoid it? First, pray. Ask God to help you see the beauty in the place He has put you. Then, maybe go for a walk in the park. Sit on a bench and look around. What do you see? Find five things that are beautiful to you. Maybe an interesting stone beside you, or a brightly colored beetle, or maybe those children playing with their dog. Although these things don’t even compare to the Grand Canyon, they do hold a great beauty that God put there. God has plans for you where you are. Don’t spend your life chasing a beauty that was right behind you the whole time.
